Currently Hiring: Food Services Cook

SUMMARY

Stayner Camp & Christian Retreat Centre is seeking a part-time Food Services Cook to support our mission of impacting lives through the life-changing love of Jesus through Christ-centred hospitality. This role is ideal for someone passionate about serving others, working with teams, and delivering high-quality food experiences for groups of 15–100 guests. Reporting to the Food Services Coordinator or Managing Director, the Food Services Cook prepares, presents, and serves meals with excellence and fosters a positive, faith-driven environment. The Cook may also work independently in the supervisor’s absence.

QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE
  • A personal, born-again relationship with Jesus Christ.
  • Ability to affirm the ECM Statement of Faith and Statement of Agreement.
  • Flexible availability, including evenings, weekends, and holidays as needed.
  • Ability to report to 240 Scott Street, Stayner, ON for all scheduled shifts.
  • Theological or childhood studies education (certificate or higher from an accredited institution) or acceptable equivalent (preferred)
  • Valid Food Handler Certificate (or willingness to obtain prior to start date)
  • Valid CPR/First Aid Certificate (or willingness to obtain within 3 months of employment).
  • Experience in a commercial or camp kitchen, or a demonstrated desire and aptitude to cook with whole ingredients (preferred)
  • Successful completion and submission of a Vulnerable Sector Check.

RESPONSIBILITIES & DUTIES
  • Prepare balanced, appealing meals and baked goods, including equitable options for dietary needs and therapeutic diets.
  • Ensure kitchen, dining areas, and service stations are clean, organized, and compliant with Public Health regulations and Food Safe guidelines.
  • Monitor and record temperatures for coolers, freezers, hot-holding, and dishwashers; manage inventory; label/date and store food safely; and minimize waste through appropriate reuse of leftovers.
  • Deliver excellent guest service, responding promptly and professionally to needs and requests.
  • Work most weekends during guest rentals and maintain flexibility within a seven-day workweek; scheduled days off will vary with operational needs.
JOB-SPECIFIC SKILLS
  • Self-motivated, highly organized, and able to manage multiple responsibilities in a fast-paced environment.
  • Physically capable of lifting up to 50 lb and working in varying temperature settings.
  • Desire to grow in culinary and supervisory skills while serving the Lord through hospitality.
  • Ability to lead small teams, supervise volunteers, and cultivate a culture of collaboration, respect, and excellence.
  • Obtain an Ontario Food Handler Certificate within two weeks of hire; comply with all applicable public health regulations.
  • Comfortable with the physical demands and longer hours typical of peak season (July–August) and guest-group weekends.
  • Flexibility to assist outside standard kitchen duties when needed (e.g., light maintenance support or assisting children’s programming under supervision).
EVALUATION & COMPENSATION
  • Position: Part-time, flexible. Approximately 10–15 hours/week initially, depending on operational needs; opportunities for increased hours during peak seasons.
  • Compensation: Salary commensurate with experience.
  • Performance Review: Annual performance evaluation by the Managing Director.
  • Compensation Review: Annual review of compensation each Fall by the Finance Team.
